Magpie Community Foundation
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arm of the Poor Bear Tiospaye (extended family). Our model utilizes the existing wisdom, skills, relationships, and land within the Poor Bear Tiospaye and surrounding community to establish ecologically and culturally sustainable infrastructure, education, and food systems to provide for our children, elders, and the coming generations.

Karl, an attorney by day and songwriter by night, is long a friend and supporter of Magpie and of several families around Allen. He’s especially invested in the huge vegetable gardens on the Allen Sundance grounds. When some personal misfortunes hit him in the past few years he wrote. The result is NeverSawItComin’, songs which attempt to express, among other things, the Lakota value of perseverance, a virtue he see a lot of in his Allen friends’ commitment to tradition.
